Audio Drama – Theatre of the Mind

Working together to create compelling narratives. Creating immersive audio experiences

Being part of creating Storytel’s audio drama ‘1984’ was such a poignant and profound voyage. It was such a privilege to share the vision with creative producers/directors Kate Jones and Anna Leah, who were at the helm.

Camilla jumped onboard at the early pre production stage, as UK production manager. She helped with the casting of supporting talents, facilitating recordings and advised, during post production, on the localising of this mind blowing audio drama into 13 different languages.

We were still under pandemic restriction. The actors were performing in separate booths, which added to the feeling of stark isolation in the narrative itself.

During our recording week, we had the news that Ukraine was being invaded by Russia.

Amid all the darkness and horror – fictitious as well as real world events – the narrative tapestry was being woven with a great sense of togetherness. And there was a glimmer of hope.

This immersive audio drama was shortlisted for the prestigious Audies, making 1984 not ‘just’ a production, but quite an achievement for us as a team.
